rise sc programs

Rise SC’s principal mission is the promotion of youth soccer. We strive to instill a love for the game in each of our players and to provide an environment where each player may participate according to his or her interest and ability. We take great pride in developing our players as athletes, students and responsible young men and women. Our players form lifelong friendships with their club mates, maintain healthy lifestyles and acquire leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship skills that ultimately prepare them for life beyond soccer.

Rise SC offers the most comprehensive programming for recreational and elite players and everyone in between. At an appropriate time, players can decide whether to move onto the competitive program.

RISE RECREATIONAL
Birth years 2014 (U4) - 2006 (U12)

The Rise SC Recreational program (“Rise Rec”) introduces our youngest players to the beautiful game.

Rise Rec provides a fun, safe, instructional soccer experience for players of all skill levels (from beginner to advanced), for players with birth years from 2014 (U4) to 2006 (U12). Tryouts are not required; however, pre-season evaluations may be scheduled for certain age groups.

Training sessions and games for Rise Rec are geographically sensible. Upon registering to the program, players have the ability to designate their “home campus” so they are close to home. Due to the popularity and scale of our recreational program, Rise SC may organize cross community play
opportunities when age appropriate.

Rise Rec is, at heart, a community-based program, with teams formed from numerous geographic locations, including: West University, Bellaire, River Oaks, Meyerland, Westbury, Sugar Land, First Colony, Missouri City, Sienna Plantation and Pearland.

DEVELOPING SKILLED AND CREATIVE PLAYERS

There are no shortcuts to player development; success requires a long term approach and commitment. Player success is directly correlated to the player environment a young athlete is exposed to. Rise SC provides it’s recreational players a fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where our professionally licensed coaching staff helps players develop their technical skills in an environment that allows them to express their individual creativity. The Rise Recreational model encompasses both formal and creative learning methods to accomplish these goals. RECREATIONAL PATHWAY

Rise Rec is our entry-level program, which has traditionally been our players’ first experience in organized soccer. The first years in our recreational program are very formative and will greatly influence the pathway our players choose. Rise SC will have a place for every player regardless of their level of play. The U8 age group is a traditional year where players can choose to stay in the recreational program or choose to move into our competitive program and strive to reach the highest level of play.

FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS - FORMAL LEARNING

The Rise Rec Program focuses on individual skill development, building confidence in players and maximizing player creativity by allowing kids to learn the game gradually in a fun, engaging environment. Our coaching staff wants players to feel comfortable and confident when they have the ball at their feet. To accomplish this, our coaches will help players build a strong fundamental skill foundation seasonally, by introducing proper ball-handling basics and techniques through a series of age-appropriate activities that advance progressively. Rise players will be asked to use all parts and both of their feet to handle the ball.

They will even use different sized balls to keep them challenged. By focusing on mastering the basics, Rise players will develop a confident first touch on the ball and eventually progress to control the ball at a variety of speeds and heights. With a strong fundamental foundation, players will improve their chances of becoming excellent decision-makers with the ball even when they are under pressure. Learning appropriate techniques from licensed professional coaches who are familiar with the player development process will help our players start to master their technique and learn how to maintain their poise when they have the ball.

STREET SOCCER - CREATIVE LEARNING

The street soccer concept is a learning method that emerged from playing soccer in the street. This informal and unstructured play format was essentially a neighborhood pickup game where any player could simply just jump in and play. By introducing street soccer to our weekly recreational programming, the Rise SC coaching staff will have the flexibility to mix players together by their play levels, regardless of their genders and age groups. This format will keep the games fresh, competitive and engaging for our players. By breaking the mold of the overly structured model, our players will have the opportunity to match up with players whose abilities technically and/or physically mirror their own. This method is much less time consuming than having kids stand in lines doing drills and will improve their development. Street soccer nights will take place at your assigned training location.

Unlike traditional weekend games where players are assigned to a specific team, our coaching staff will have the ability to manipulate the street soccer games to put players in realistic situations, where they will have to rely on their individual technical skills, decision making and creativity to make an impact. This type of environment is not only fun and developmental, but it will be used for player identification and player opportunity purposes. The Rise SC Coaching Staff will provide supervision and organize the street soccer games. They will not be there to coach these games. Our intention with street soccer is to allow the game to be the teacher. Players will be encouraged to express their individual creativity and experiment. We want to see the kids solve problems, make decisions, learn from making mistakes with minimal coaching interaction and no parent involvement in these games.

RISE RECREATIONAL PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

INTRODUCTORY PHASE
for birth years 2014 (U4) & 2013 (U5)

Instead of the weekly game format, Rise SC uses Friday UpRISE nights (FUN) to introduce and emphasize fundamental skills to our youngest players via our curriculum-based, developmental program. During these once weekly, hour-long sessions, the emphasis is on fun and age-appropriate skills development. Rise SC staff coaches will be on hand to coordinate all player activities. Why do we not have games for these ages? We believe that in an uncontrolled game environment, athletic kids can dominate solely by relying on their athletic abilities. We want to provide an engaging learning environment for all of our players where they can grow socially while building a solid technical foundation that will give them the best opportunity to find success in the game regardless of their athletic ability. In a controlled training environment, our coaches staff can easily manipulate exercises to challenge players individually of every skill level.

DEVELOPMENT PHASE
for birth years 2012 (U6) & 2006 (U12)

The Rise Recreational development phase provides players the opportunity to receive elite level training as part of our base recreational program. Our recreational program in this phase is designed to improve individual technical skills and creativity while providing a fun, stress- free environment conducive to learning where players can go at their own pace. Rise SC players in this phase will have two, hour-long training sessions weekly plus a game on the weekend. Players will be placed on teams, but weekly training sessions are pool based. The team concept only comes into play on weekend games. Our focus in the Recreational Program for these age groups is on individual player development, not team development.

During weekly training sessions, players will have one fundamental skills session and a street soccer game. During the weekly training sessions, players will be moved by the coaching staff to create an environment where players are grouped in a manner that intended to maximize touches and efficiency. Rise SC staff coaches will be on hand to lead all weekly training activities and to supervise games on the weekend.

Programming:

  • Innovative, comprehensive curriculum, which is age appropriate and in line with the Rise SC player development philosophy.
  • Focus on physical, social, cognitive and emotional development of players through fun and creative programming.
  • Fun, stress-free environment.
  • U4-U5, 1 weekly training session on Friday evening.
  • U6-U12, 2 weekly training sessions on either M/W or T/Th.
  • All training sessions are 1 hour.
  • Generally, games are played on Saturdays or Sundays, and sometimes Friday nights

Team Leadership and Coaching:

  • Teams are managed by volunteers who are subject to a background check by South Texas Youth Soccer Association.
  • Before each season, the Rise SC coaching staff will have a mandatory parent education seminar for volunteer Team Managers and parents.
  • No previous soccer experience is required for volunteer Team Managers.
  • We recommend that each team has a volunteer Team Manager and an Assistant Team Manager.
  • Rise SC coaching staff members will lead all training sessions in the Recreational Program. Occasionally, they may ask team managers for assistance.
  • Weekend games will be led by team managers, however the Rise SC coaching staff will be on hand at most play sites to ensure the game environment is consistent with the training environment.

Team Formation:

  • A player will not be assigned to a team unless Rise SC has his/her proof of age on file.
  • “Play-up” requests from parents will not be accommodated
  • The Rise Recreational director may allow a player to “play up” if it is developmentally appropriate for the player.
  • Every team will require a parent volunteer manager to act as a communication liaison between the parents and the coaching staff and/or club.
  • It is our goal to provide a team for every player that wants to play, occasionally circumstances will dictate players make a short commute to training sessions or games
  • Balanced teams are formed to ensure fair and meaningful competition among similar age-group teams. Players will sometimes be asked to move between teams so that we can ensure we are providing an environment optimal for player development.
  • To the extent possible, with an eye towards balanced team formation, each team will consist of players of varying skill levels.
  • All Rise Rec players shall receive a minimum of 50% play time during games, unless due to player’s illness/injury or for disciplinary reasons.
  • Team assignments are final and not subject to appeal.
  • The Rise SC coaching staff is responsible for assembling teams and initiating player movements.
